What is a nuisance payment?

I have been offered a nuisance payment in relation to an accident I was injured in. What is this and should I accept it?

A nuisance payment effectively means that the other party, or their insurers, are offering you a sum of money early on in proceedings to compensate you for any injury you may have sustained, and to dispose of the claim without further cost to them. It will usually be a lesser amount than the full value of the claim to reflect the fact that the matter is being resolved early and without incurring the risks of further litigation.

You should take your solicitor's advice as to whether the risks of continuing your claim are such that acceptance of such a sum would be recommended.
