I am a nurse and I was assaulted by a patient at work and badly injured. Can I claim for this?

I am a nurse working in mental health. I was assaulted at work by a patient for no apparent reason and I nearly lost my life. On that day we were short of staff. I am still off sick as I suffered physical and psychological trauma. I had a severe back injury and am still having physiotherapy. I am still getting flash backs of the incident and am taking antidepressants and having counselling. Can you kindly give me your opinion of the amount of compensation I can claim for this incident?

Damages for personal injury consist of an amount for pain, suffering and loss of amenity and an amount for actual losses such as travel expenses, care and loss of earnings.  Claims can also be made for loss of future earnings and loss of congenial employment should this be relevant.  It is difficult to give you any idea of the amount you could recover save that as you are still unable to work the total could be substantial.  I can ask one of our legal counsellors to call you to go through your case in detail. The service is confidential, there are no costs associated with the call and there is no obligation of any kind. Please reply to this email if you want to use this service.
